Abstract

problem solving skill is an ability that directs the students to understand and solve authentic problems. Problem-solving skills can be assessed based on some indicators which include analyzing problems, developing steps of solutions, formulating solutions and evaluating solutions to the problems. One of the learning models that can be used to train problem solving skill is problem based learning. This research aimed at training the problem solving skill of senior high school students on immune system material through the implementation of problem-based learning model. The research was conducted in class XIScience in Wachid Hasjim 3senior high school Sedati in the second semester using one group pretest-posttest design. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis. The results of this research showed that the students’ problem solving skills has an increase with an average n-gain score of 0.75 and high category. The score for each indicator of problem solving skill increased with the n-gain score of 0.32 until 0.92 and categorized as medium and high. This category indicates that the problem-based learning model can improve the problem solving skill of senior high school students on the immune system material.
