Abstract

This study is aimed to produce guided inquiry-based instructional materials to practice science literacy that is proper (valid, practical, and effective) used in learning process on material of energy in life. This study is development research use Dick and Carey Model. The development of instructional materials consists of Syllabus, Lesson Plan, Students’ Book, Students’ Worksheet, and Literacy Science Assessment. The device was tried out toward 42 Seventh Grader students of SMP Negeri 31 Tanjung Jabung Timur in Second Semester School year 2016/2017. Data collection used validation, observation, test, questionnaire methods. Data analysis used descriptive qualitative-quantitative analysis. Research findings are: (1) the validity of instructional materials consists of Lesson Plan, Students’ Book, Students’ Worksheet, and Instrument Literacy Science Assessment is stated valid, (2) the practicality of instructional materials is got from the implementation of lesson plan that categorized very well and the constraint during learning process using instructional materials developed, (3) the effectiveness is showed with the increasing of science literacy score proved with n-gain in medium category and students’ response toward instructional materials are interesting and easy to learn. Based on the data analysis can be concluded that guided inquiry-based instructional materials is proper to practice science literacy.
