Algebraic Reasoning of Student in Solving Mathematical Problem with the Adversity Quotient

Abstract


To understand algebraic reasoning in solving mathematical problems, a task based interview study was conducted with 3 junior high school students. Thereafter in this research was analyzed using time triangulation. One students with each of three different Adversity Quotient participated. This paper reports on the profile algebraic reasoning of students with the quitter, camper and climber category Adversity Quotient.  Three student the process of pattern seeking by identifying the things that are known and asked in a similar way that is reading the task and understand the information given first, Then the three student are equally represents the things it knows in its own words and is explained in the interview in its own way. The three student was found the elements of pattern recognition in different ways. In recognizing that all three have different ways, quitter students experiment with observing relationships and similarities between elements of pattern formation, camper students was observing patterns and climber students experimenting to find out the general formula used, then finding relationships and similarity to the constituent elements of the pattern, so that in generalization it, all three are obtained in different ways or methods.
