Abstract

This study aims to describe the students’ spatial abilities based on cognitive style and sex differences. This research is descriptive research with qualitative approach. The main instrument in this research is researcher and supporting instrument is GEFT, spatial ability test, math ability test, and interview guide. Taking the subject in this study involved 30 boys and 30. The subjects were 4 students, one male and one female of field independent cognitive style, one male and one female of field dependent cognitive style. Research began by determining the subject using GEFT and math ability test, and then continued by giving spatial ability test and interview. Checking the validity of data using time triangulation. Data analysis in this study used Miles & Huberman stages, namely data reduction, display data, and conclusion. The results showed that there are differences in spatial abilities of the four subjects that are on the components of spatial visualization, mental rotation, and spatial relations. While in spatial perception and spatial orientation, they had the same spatial ability.
