Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain a description of students' thinking profiles in solving mathematical problems. This research is a qualitative research. Subject selection based on math ability. Subjects consist of one subject with high math ability, a medium math-ability subject, and a low math-ability subject. The three subjects are seventh grade at junior high school. The method used is the method of task and interview. The task consists of a word problem and interview used in semi structured interview. The results showed that the third subject's thinking profile is different. This difference occurs in the receiving and processing of information. This difference is influenced by the perception of each subject. Student perception is influenced by ability and experience. So teachers should pay more attention to students' thinking profiles in designing meaningful learning.
