Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe algebraic thinking profile of high school female student’s field independent cognitive style in solving linear program. This type of research is qualitative descriptive. Subjects in this study were high school female students of class XI who have received the linear program material and have a field independent cognitive style. Data collection methods used observations, documentation, and interview. Mechanical analysis of data through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The study states that she writes a mathematical model of a given problem using a deal algebra, interpretes the meaning and the differences between constants and variables in the mathematical models that have been created in the form of the objective function and constraint functions, needs to find all the cut points, do substitution of a pair of linear inequalities, attempt to describe the results of the analysis in the form of interpretation algebraic graphs in Cartesian coordinate system, interpretes and test the maximum gain value by the cutoff point, finds the maximum point and meaning of numbers obtained as the variable value that asked
