Designing students’ worksheet on arithmetic series by activating History and Pedagogical in Mathematics (HPM)

Abstract


This study aimed at developing a student’s worksheet of arithmetic series by integrating history of mathematics for students’ learning. History and Pedagogical in Mathematics (HPM) is considered as a perspective to support students’ activity in reinventing mathematics concept. The history of Gauss’ strategy in investigating the arithmetic series concept as well as its historical snippets were acknowledged in the developed worksheet. The method used was modified Three-D model by Thiagarajan. The worksheet was validated by mathematics educator as expert and it shows that it can be used for students’ learning of arithmetic series.  The historical snippets in terms of historical exposition, expository information, the factual data and conceptual issues were included in the worksheet to invite students’ active involvement in investigating arithmetic series concept.
