Abstract


The purpose of this study is to know the profile of understanding the concept of distance to the line of students high school level normal IQ in terms of gender differences. This research use Qualitative method. The result of the research on the profile of male subject (SLIN) and female subject (SPIN) in terms of four aspects obtained the following results, namely: 1) understanding aspects is a difference, on the aspect of understanding female subject is better than male subject in understanding the concept of line distance to line, the indicator is SPIN has a cognition of the line distance to the line is the length of the vertical line segment connecting the first line to the second line, while the SLIN states the distance between two lines is the length of the line segment connected through the midpoint of the two lines, so that SLIN's views are conceptually weak; 2) aspect of representation; 3) the example aspect and not the example; and 4) aspect of application calculate distance no significant difference. This research is different from previous research, which states that the geometry ability of male students is always superior to female students.
