Abstract

This research is descriptive research with qualitative approach aims to describe SMP students’ relational thinking with cognitive reflective style and SMP students’ cognitive impulsive style in mathematic problem solving. The subject of this research consists of two students of MTS Nurus Sholah Pamekasan. Data collecting done by giving problem solving task 1 and problem solving task 2 and interview. Data validation technique used in this research was triangulation. Result of this research showed that the subject with cognitive reflective style find important element in solving problem those are reading more than once to identify what being asked and write completely the information known, build the relation in each element and among elements that relate information known with addition operation, subtraction operation, division operation, and multiplication operation. The subject of reflective also builds relation of problem holistically those are related among what being asked with information known, make equations to identify value that did not know yet by using substitution and build relation when rechecking those are view questions and recounting.  While subject with cognitive impulsive style found important element in understanding information known, build relation in each element and among elements those are relate information known with addition operation, subtraction operation, division operation, and multiplication operation. Subject of impulsive also build relation of problem holistically those are relate among what being asked with information known, determined value that did not know yet with division operation without make equation model.  When rechecking result of problem solving impulsive subject just read at a glance without reacounting result of problem solving
