Abstract

Sphygmomanometer is widely used in medical devices for patient diagnosis. This device is used to measure the patient's blood pressure non invasive. To maintain the accuracy of measurement, it was required to calibrate the Sphygmomanometer periodically. The standard instrument to calibrate the sphygmomanometer is digital pressure meter (DPM). Purpose of this study is to design the digital pressure meter to calibrate the conventional sphygmomanometer using a proposed design based on AVR atmega 16 microcontroller  with builtin a thermohygrometer sensor. To test the effectivenes of the proposed design, we compared the results of measurement between the standard DPM  and the proposed design. The data’s were record ten times from both instruments. The effectiveness of the proposed design was based on the error of measurement between standard DPM and proposed design. The result  showed that the average error was 0.2% and 0.1% for top to down and down to top measurement respectively. The measurement error of themperature and humidity were 0.1% and 0.2% respectively. In accordance to the results, it suggested that the proposed design was able to be used as a calibrator.
