The Creativity of Elementary Students with Melancholic and Choleric’s Personality Types in Solving Open-Ended Math Problem

Abstract


This study was intended to describe the creativity of two 5th grader’s students in solving problem with regard their personality types. The solved problems were assessed based on three components of creativity, namely fluency, flexibility, and novelty. Mathematic open-ended problem tests and modified personality types inventory of Hippocrates-Galenus were used to collect the data. Test and interview results were analysed and time triangulation were used to check data validity. The unique pattern in terms of ways in solve problem were found in two subjects. Melancholic subject completed all components of creativity with figural representation, while Choleric subject completed only two components of creativity which are fluency and flexibility with verbal representation. The implication of these findings for teaching and students’ learning were also discussed.
