Abstract

This study is an explorative research with qualitative descriptive approach which aimed to describe algebraic reasoning of middle’s school’s pupils with VAK learning styles in solving mathematics problem. The subjects of this research were 3 pupils of 8th-grade, whereas the learning styles of each pupil is visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. These pupils had equivalent mathematical abilitsy. The mathematical problem given was a algebraic problem. The results showed that in the indicator of pattern seeking, the third pupils identified something that is known and asked in the given problem. Furthemore the third pupils represented the known information in a chart form. Next activity, they found the elements which makes the pattern, and created a relationship between two quantities. In the pattern recognition indicator, they activities were making conjectures and proving the conjecture. In the generalization indicator, the visual and kinesthetic pupils were determining the general rule of the pattern which is found in each element of the pattern, modeling the given situation/problem into mathematics model, and determining the general rule of equation used to solve the problem in algebraic form but the auditory pupil defining the general rule of equation used to solve the problem in a sentence.
