Abstract

This research is motivated by the low level of problem-solving skill of high school students especially in science subjects (Biology). This study aimed to develop teaching and learning materials (syllabus, lesson plan, students’ worksheet, teaching materials) used a predict-discuss-explain-observe-discuss-explain model that aimed to improve the problem-solving skill of senior high school students on sensory system. This study used 4D development model that has been tried out on 36 students by using one group pretest-posttest design. Research data were obtained from validation, observation, and test methods. Data analysis employed quantitative-qualitative with the result validation of teaching and learning materials with category valid and extremely valid, implementation of learning were good and very good, and the resulting test of problem-solving skill increased with N-Gain 0.87 that indicated high criteria. It can be concluded that teaching and learning materials with the predict-discuss-explain-observe-discuss-explain model were applicable used to improve problem-solving skill senior high school students. These results indicate that teaching and learning materials predict-discuss-explain-observe-discuss-explain model can be used as a reference or alternative learning tools that can be used in the learning process in school
