QUITTER STUDENT’S PROBLEM SOLVING OF PISA ALGEBRA

Abstract


Mathematics goal given to the students is practicing of daily problem solving related in mathematics concept. So that, mathematics learning becomes meaningful. PISA is one of international standard students’ assessment programs which assess students’ mathematics problem solving ability. PISA issue is a mathematics application in daily problem solving. Oftentimes, students give up easily when they get difficulty in problem solving. This research was a qualitative research which it had a goal to describe quitter student’s problem solving of PISA algebra. In getting data, researcher used test and interview method. Quitter student’s problem solving of PISA algebra was students who had difficulty in logical reasoning toward known information and giving reason in every step, having difficulty when they plan problem solving strategy, using proper arithmetic operation but getting difficulty in last result quantification and using proper symbol, able to interpret problem, communicating information and incapable to take conclusion properly.
