Abstract


This recent study is conducted to produce instructional materials Socio-Scientific Issues contextual that valid, practical, and effective to facilitate students scientific literacy skills to improve learning achievement for students of SMP Negeri 1 Sukodadi grade VIII in the odd semester of academic year 2016/2017. This research and development study applies Dick & Carey Model with one group pretest-posttest design. The products of this research and development study are instructional materials, which are consist of a syllabus, lesson plan, students worksheet, and assessment. This study applies quantitative and qualitative analysis technique. Thus, for collecting data, this study uses some techniques such as observation, test, and questionnaire. The results of the study are: 1) the developed instructional materials are very valid. 2) implementation of lesson plan was a very good category and students activities are in a good category. 3) students scientific literacy have a good improvement and students responded very positively to learning that is already implemented.The effectiveness of the instructional materials in term of attitude aspect is good and in an aspect of knowledge and skill is done completely. Based on the result of this recent study, it can be concluded that a developed Socio-Scientific Issues contextual of instructional materials are valid, practical, and effective to improving students scientific literacy skills.
