Abstract

This study aims to describe the ability of translation between students' mathematical representation with masculine and feminine gender. This research is descriptive research with qualitative approach. The subject of this study was a male student with masculine gender and female students with feminine gender in 8th grade of MTs Negeri 2 Surabaya in academic year 2016/2017. Data collection method in this research is by using written test in the form of translation task between mathematics representation and job-based interview to know the ability of translation between student's mathematical representation. The results show that the masculine subject is able to translate the six types of translations that are given through the four stages of translation. However, target representations are made slightly less precise. The feminine subject is also able to translate between the mathematical representations for the six translation types given through the four stages of translation. Representation of the resulting target as requested. It shows that both are able to change the source representation into the requested target representation. However, the feminine subject may form a target representation that is more in line with the given source representation than the masculine subject.
