Abstract

This study was aimed to describe mathematics representation of junior high school students in solving difference from cognitif style.

This study a qualitative study, the thecnique of collectivia data is mathematics ability test, GEFT test, problem solving works and interviews. The subject of study was junior high school student class VIII amount 2 peoples.

The result of this study showing the subject representation they ideas to solving the mathematics problem using polya problem solving steps: (a) understanding problem, (b) device a plan (c) carry out the plan, and (d) looking back.

Otherwise the subject representation with field Independent in the mathematics problems: understanding the informations and the thing what asked in written teks form and picture, design solution plan with written teks and math formula, device the plan with subsitution the value with knowed into the formula and also not recorrection but writing conclusion. While the subject with field dependent representing they ideas to solve the problem by: understand the informations what is asked an image, to plan into a mathematical formula, implementing the plan by subsituting known elements into mathematical formulas also recorrection by doing recalculate and write back the conclusions obtained  and also not recorrection but writing conclusion.
