The aim of this research is to described  the profile of students self-monitoring in cube and cuboid problem solving observed by mathematics ability. This study was an exploratory study with a qualitive approach. The  study  was  focused  on  three subjects of eight grade junior high school students with high, medium and low mathematics ability. The data colection prosedure used mathematics ability test, self- monitoring tasks and interviews. Data analysis techniques performed are data condensation, data display and drawing and verifiying conclusion. The results research showed that self-monitoring of students with high mathematics ability included component (1) reading and understanding information, (2) analysis and planning strategies, (3) implementing and monitoring strategies used, (4) verifying, and (5) ensuring that they have used every step of the activity. Self-monitoring of students with medium mathematics ability included components (1) reading and understanding information, (2) analysis and planning strategies, (3) implementing and monitoring strategies used, and (4) ensuring that they have used every step of the activity. While self-monitoring of students with low mathematics ability included components (1) reading and understanding information, (2) analysis and planning strategies, and (3) implementing and monitoring strategies used.
