Abstract

This paper is about developing a learning trajectory for teaching statistics using Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach at Junior High School. This research used design research method that characterized by a cyclic process of preparing for the experiment, conducting the experiment, dan retrospective analysis. The subject of the research was the students at grade nine of MTsN Salido. Data of the research was collected trough observations, interviews, checklist, videotaping, and analyzing the students' works. The data was analyzed using quantitative and qualitative analysis. During preparing for the experiment phase, it was conducted the literature reviews, analyzed the curriculums and the textbooks about statistics. Based on the results of analyses, it was designed a learning trajectory that consist of hypothetical learning trajectory (HLT), activities of solving contextual problems, and the predictions of the students' solutions and probing questions to stimulate the students' thinking. To implement the learning trajectory in the classrooms, it was designed the Teacher’s Guide and Students’ Book. The learning trajectory has been validated by some experts in mathematics education, and it has reached the criteria of validity. After the validation process, it was conducted a formative evaluation on the learning trajectory that involved one-to-one and small group evaluation, and field test. The results of formative evaluation show that the learning trajectory could work in the mathematics classroom as intended. Teaching the topic of statistic using RME approach also gives the impact on the improvement of the reasoning abilities of the students.
