Abstract

Abstract algebra is a mathematical science that studies group theory. Based on its abstract nature makes students have difficulty in learning it. Therefore it takes effort in learning it so that students are motivated and make it easy to learn it. One of learning strategies that can provide a direct experience to students by introducing, familiarizing and training students to apply mathematical theories acquired using ICT tools. In addition to increase student motivation in learning group theory, and facilitated student to know more about culture specially batik and craft, the knowledge of batik motifs and crafts in relation to group theory is studied. Learning is organized with stages, conceptualization, consolidation of concepts by using programs such as Kali program, Tess program and program that the students chose to understand the characteristic of group , the selection of batik motifs or craft that related to the type of group  studied, designing the motifs of batik and crafts using the selected program that suitable for every type of group. This paper describes the learning process and  the results of student assignments in studying symmetry groups, frieze groups, wallpapers using ICT and design results of batik motifs and craft motifs by ICT used.
