Abstract

Kana (Canna sp.) and butterfly tree (Bauhinia purpurea L.) are plants which plant at the garden of town in Indonesia, especially in Surabaya. Both plants have different habitus. Habitus of Canna sp is herb, while habitus of B. purpurea is shrub. In Surabaya, both of this plants shows the great  growth with air pollutions, such as Pb metals. Based on this case, this research aims to evaluate accumulations of Pb metals in  leaves (Canna sp) and Bauhinia purpurea L. and describe the relations between Pb contents in leaves and chlorophyll contens. The sample of this research is taken from three sampling locations, these are at Ahmad Yani Street, Diponegoro Street and Wiyung Street of Surabaya Town. Analize of Pb contents in both Kana and Kupu leaves use AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometri), which is conducted at Nutrition Laboratory of Universitas Airlangga, while analize of chlorophyll a, b contents and total is conducted at Physiology Laboratory, Biology Department, Mathematics and Natural Sciences Faculty, Universitas Negeri Surabaya. Data shows as Pb and chlorophyll contens which is analized by descriptive. The result of research shows that there is no difference absorption ability of Pb metal between both Canna sp and B. purpurea leaves, and there is no relations between Pb contents that are absorbed and chlorophyll contents in leaves.
