Analysis of Students’s Understanding of Exponential Concept: A Perspective of Pirie-Kieren Theory

Abstract
Exponential concept should be understood by student because it related in daily life’s problem. The aim of the research is to analyze 11th grade students understanding of exponential concept. Participant of the research is one female student and one male student. The students were given a test focused on exponential concept and given semi-structured task based interviews. The result showed that both of subjects could solve the given problem systematically. The final answer is correct but the expression is not simple. They could explain exponential definition and identified exponential properties. The difference between female student and male student lies in the property noticing level. Female student could prove exponential properties. Whereas male student is not fixed at the property noticing level, because he has no ability for proving exponential properties by providing a logical argument
