Abstract
The learning model of PO2E2W (problem oriented, observation, explanation, orientation, and write in science) using PhET simulation is a self-directed learning model which in the process of physics learning is done using PhET simulation. The purpose of this research is to improve students' physics problem solving skills through the implementation of PO2E2W learning model using PhET simulation on physics learning. This research uses one group pre-test and post-test design in 160 SMA Kemala Bhayangkari 1 Surabaya (Surabaya, Indonesia) academic year 2017/2018. The students’ physics problem solving skills are measured using Problem Solving Skills Assessment Sheet (PSSAS) with indicators that understand the problem, plan for problem solving, execute problem-solving plans, and re-check the problem solving. Data analysis technique using Paired t-test, n-gain and Anova test. The results show that: 1) The average post-test value in the high category; 2) There is improvement of students’ problem solving skills at α = 5%; 3) Average score of n-gain students’ physics problem solving skills in high category; 4) There is no difference (consistency) n-gain students’ students’ physics problem solving skills in all groups, and 5) Students respond very positively to the implementation of PO2E2W learning model using PhET simulation. Therefore the PO2E2W learning model using PhET simulation has proven effective in improving the physics problem solving skills of senior high school students. The implication of research m PO2E2W learning model using PhET simulation can be used as a solution to improve students' physics problem solving skills.
