Abstract

Many research proved that traditional technology is closely related to the context of today's concept of science. Unfortunately, in West Borneo this knowledge has changed and abandoned. Teachers didn’t implement science experiments in schools because the laboratory apparatus are inadequate and didn’t know the traditional technology related to content. The motivation of this research is the importance of re-exploration various traditional technologies that could be closely linked with science studies in schools through experimental activities, so it may lead to content and culture achievement. In the prelimninary of this study, various ethnographic documents that describe the traditional technologies of West Borneo has been reviewed. Information relating to physical form including the selection of materials and functional are then matched with the structure of physics concepts and experimental activities based smartphone. The research succeeded in analyzing “Meriam Karbit†that famous because could produced canon-like sound and explosion could be used to study the momentum concept and momentum conservation. There are a number of alternative science experimentation especially on the momentum concept, if traditional technology, science laboratory apparatus, and smartphone arrangement resystemmed. This could be an example of implementation at a global level with the same problem characteristics.
