MEASUREMENT MODEL OF MAP LITERACY

Abstract


Literacy map is one of the most useful skills in this century. Digital devices make maps easily accessible to anyone, anytime and anywhere. This study aims to determine the actual condition of the map literacy through a measurement model, which is valid and reliable. Measurement instruments use a rating scale. The sample of this research survey is 404 students consisting of 10 junior secondary schools. Test fit model of measurement using confirmatory factor analysis. As a result, this map literacy instrument meets the criteria as a fit measurement model with data. The four components that construct this measurement model are reading and interpreting maps, using maps, carrying out procedures in maps, and sketching maps. The identification in this study also shows that the student map literacy is still low. The results of this study can be the empirical basis of the importance of the development of map literacy in the process of learning and habituation in daily activities.
