Analysis of Students’ Scientific Attitudes for 5th Grade Elementary School in Science Learning

Abstract


This study aims to find out: (1) the characteristics of the students’ scientific attitude in science learning, (2) the process of growing scientific attitudes shown by fifth grade elementary school students. This study included quasi-experimental research with a nonequivalent post-test only control group design. This study involved 52 students of 5th grade of SD Inpres Andi Tonro in the academic year 2018/2019. Determination of the sample is based on the use of the formula Slovin. Data on scientific attitudes of students were collected by questionnaire. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis techniques (separated variance t-test). The results of this study indicate that: (1) the students’ scientific attitude of the experimental class with an average score of 123.00 is classified as a very high category while the students’ scientific attitude of the control class with an average score of 108.73 is classified as high category, (2) the implementation of teaching of attitude scientific was done by showing examples of scientific attitudes, positive reinforcement on scientific attitudes and providing opportunities for developing scientific attitudes. The scientific attitude shown by students is curiosity, respect for data/facts, critical thinking, open thinking and cooperation, and sensitivity to the environment.
