Abstract

Abstract: Students’ mathematical reasoning ability is the students’ ability to make, investigate, and express arguments based on facts (prior knowledge) to prove and accomplish the mathematical problems. Therefore, mathematical reasoning ability need to be trained during mathematics learning process at school. Based on the field observations at school, it was found that the students’ mathematical reasoning ability could not be trained optimally. This was due to the hours limitation during teaching and learning process in the classroom, so learning process only focused on explaining the materials without much discussing the exercises that required reasoning abilitiy in its accomplishment. The Flipped Classroom – Based Learning Model could be an alternative to overcome this problem, because the students could learn at home by using online and offline videos. Thus, the students could prepare themselves first before discussing the reasoning exercises in the classroom. For the smoothness of learning process, it was necessary to review the advantages and challenges in applying a learning model based on Flipped Classroom. Research revealed that the most obvious advantage was the improvement of the students’ learning performance, while the challenge in this model was lack of students’ preparation before going to the classroom. Various advantages and several challanges in this model would be discussed in detail.
