Mercury and Cyanide Pollution on the Aquatic Organism in Sekotong People Gold Mining

Abstract


This study aimed to determine the pollution of mercury and cyanide in Sekotong people gold mining. This type of research is descriptive quantitative. Samples of this research was the aquatic organism around in people gold mining consist of Acetes indicus, Perna viridis, Polymesoda expansa, Plotosus canius, Scylla serrata, Tegillarca granosa, Moolgarda seheli, and Crassostrea gigas. The sample of mercury was analysis with Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) and sample of cyanide with Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) Spectrophotometry. Generally, the results showed that the samples contain mercury and cyanide in aquatic organism with the highest level of mercury 23,43 ppm and cyanide 90,22 ppm. From the results of the samples showed that aquatic organism in around of Sekotong people gold mining has been polluted.
