Abstract

Workers' activities in factories always relates to machines, close to dangerous waste, or buildings which are vulnerable to fire. They are not only required to carry out various technical works well, safely, and efficiently but also to work in potentially dangerous environments. Knowledge of safety practices continues to be an important and integral part of training to improve a competency of employee. The training program has evolved to meet the challenges of diverse participants. The training program has grown to fulfil some various challenges. The training program using e-learning has grown as a challenge for the era of industrial revolution 4.0. This method is considered the most efficient and flexible which allows companies to manage some goals of work safety training through technology. The scope of this study is the use of information technology in the practice of human resource management functions, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of training implementation using e-learning methods and employee’s perceptions of e-learning training compared to face-to-face training in manufacturing companies in East Java. The researcher conducted the study using cross sectional method to evaluate the effectiveness of the company e-training program. We conducted an online survey of 200 manufacturing company employees in East Java about employee’s perceptions of e-training compared to face-to-face training determined through an 18-question survey discussing demographic information, experience with training, and perceptions on online and face-to-face training. The results of this study indicates that employees think e-training is a more flexible training method so that it is more adaptable to the participants' rhythms; training content is more update, and it allows more in-depth training. Meanwhile, employees think face-to-face classroom training is more motivating, easier to solve problems with tutors, more focused, and better quality of tutors' explanations. We therefore consider that the use of e-training is more effective in facilitating the development of training activities, reducing training costs and achieving a more flexible learning process.
