Science Teacher’s Conception about Importance of Geoscience Learning: A Case Study of Junior High School in Surabaya Indonesia

Abstract


The aim of this study is to identify the science teacher’s conception about importance of geoscience learning. This study was possessed the conception profile of science teacher about geoscience learning through questionnaire instrument and curriculum analyzes to 15 science teachers at three Junior High Schools in Surabaya as the participants. The results indicated that more than 50% of science teachers state that geoscience is not important to teach because it has been not considerable need to national exam. Based on the curriculum analyzes, can be known that the learning method which is done use textbooks only without involving issues which are happening in the present. Therefore it can be concluded that the developed geosciences learning curriculum for pre-service science teachers needs to be developed.
