Abstract

This study aims to produce a Contextual Teaching And Learning (CTL) learning device with a Predict, Observe, Explain (POE) strategy that is feasible and able to train students' critical thinking skills, learning tools developed include RPP, LKS, student books and critical thinking ability test instruments on optical material. This research is a quantitative descriptive study covering four stages, namely the 4D development model (design, define, develop, dessiminate) adapted into the 4P model, namely defining, designing, developing and distributing. The conclusions of this study are learning Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) with Predict, Observe, Explain (POE) Strategies in class VIII junior high school students in even semester 2015/2016 Optics material developed by researchers is appropriate to be used to train students' critical thinking skills. This is evidenced by the students' response to CTL learning with the POE strategy getting an average yield of 82%, which means that students respond very positively. These conditions can be taken into consideration and reference to students' critical thinking skills. So that it can be concluded that the learning tool Contextual Teaching Learning (CTL) with Predict, Observe, Explain (POE) strategies for class VIII junior high school students in even semester 2015/2016 Optics Geometry material developed by researchers is appropriate to be used to train students' critical thinking skills.
