Abstract

Kemantren beach is located in the Kemantren Village, Paciran District, Lamongan Regency that consist of sand and coral substrate. Kemantren beach is one of the coastal islands of Java that has already reclamated, potency of ecotourism spot, and a habitat for invertebrates’ diversity. Unfortunately, there are no records about the species richness of invertebrates in this area. The purposes of this research were to know the species richness of invertebrates at Kemantren, Lamongan Beach and to describe their morphological characteristics and habitat. Specimens were collected from intertidal and shallow subtidal zone by sweeping techniques along the lines of the coastal. Morphological and habitat data were analyzed descriptively. The results of this research showed that there were four phyla of invertebrates at Kemantren coastal water. They were: Crustacea (Alpheidae), Mollusca (Gastropoda, Bivalvia), Annelida (Polycaeta, were Notaulux nodicollis and Sabellastarte magnifica), and Porifera (Spongiidae, Thorectidae, Dysideidae, Tetillidae, Heteroxydae, Chalinidae). We have listed a total of 12 bivalves and 22 gastropods species spread over among 12 families. Crustacea (Alpheus richardsoni, Alpheus strenuus) were found fewest, while Mollusca (Class Bivalvia and Gastropoda) were abundant in this coastal. The richness of invertebrates is a useful tool for biodiversity, management, conservation and development of science. Exploring the potentials of these species as source of sustainable income for the locals is suggested.
