E-learning Based on Framework for 21st Century Learning and STEM Curriculum at FMIPA – Universitas Negeri Surabaya as The Center of Distance Learning: A Framework

Abstract


Covid-19 outbreak affects almost all aspects of people’s life, including education. Schools and universities are shutted down to prevent the virus transmission. As a result, teaching and learning process in schools and campuses must be conducted based on distance learning. FMIPA – Universitas Negeri Surabaya as the Center of Distance Learning for Mathematics and Sciences Teaching needs to provide a framework for developing e-learning that is based on Framework for 21st Century Learning and STEM Curriculum. This study aims to get information about lecturers and students’ readiness to conduct and follow online education based on Framework for 21st Century Learning and STEM Curriculum. The information got is used as a base to construct a framework for developing e-learning at FMIPA – Unesa. This is a descriptive qualitiative research with lecturers, students and the faculty’s policy makers as the subjects of this study. The data is obtained by using online questionnaire (Google® form), documentation study, and interview and observation protocols. It can be concluded that most of lecturers are already familiar with online-based teaching although there are still many of them do not reformulate the learning objectives they used in their conventional courses. Most students have been familiar with online learning. However, due to unreadiness of lecturers in providing courses with learning objectives being in accordanced with the characteristics of online education, students need to adapt their learning style to follow the courses. A framework for developing e-learning based on Framework of 21st Century Learning and STEM Curriculum is also constructed.
