ABSTRACT

The study aims to determine the effect of the Blended Learning (BL)  model assisted by the simulation software of PLC Simatic S7-300 on improving the problem-solving ability and learning outcomes of electro technical officer  cadets in Politeknik Pelayaran Surabaya.

This study use an experimental method with non equivalent control group design. The population of the research is the electro cadets  in the third semester of Politeknik Pelayaran Surabaya. The independent variable in this study is a blended learning (BL)  model  assisted by the the simulation software of PLC Simatic S7-300 and the dependent variable are the ability of problem solving and learning outcomes.

The research design applied was Nonequivalent Control Group Design, or post and pretest was not equivalent. The design of this study has two groups that have been predetermined. Group A as a control class gets conventional learning treatment face-to-face in class. Class B as an experimental class was treated with blended learning model assisted with the the simulation software of PLC Simatic S7-300.

The result data of research obtained are as follows: (1) the results of hypothesis testing at a significance level of 0.05, obtained sig. Equal variances level assumed 0.018 and sig. Equal variances level is not assumed 0.019, both are smaller than 0.05, so it can be concluded that the average basic problem solving ability of automation and control system technology of the experimental class is higher than the control class (2) the results of hypothesis testing at the significance level of 0 , 05, obtained sig. Equal variances level assumed 0.026 and sig. Equal variances level is not assumed 0.024, the value of both is smaller than 0.05, so it is formulated that the average learning outcomes of the experimental class are higher than the control class.

The results showed: (1) There was a significant influence of cadets who participated in learning with a blended learning model assisted by the the simulation software of PLC Simatic S7-300 on problem solving abilities; (2) There is a significant influence of cadets who participate in learning with a blended learning model assisted by the the simulation software of PLC Simatic S7-300 on learning outcomes.
