Abstract

The Indonesian government made a new policy about freedom of learning to advance education in Indonesia. Along with this policy, distance learning comes as a Covid-19 pandemic threat solution. This research investigates education that is most appropriate for these two phenomena, namely whether freedom of learning is an answer to the challenges of the times, for example covid-19, whether it can be effective with distance learning, or there is a distortion of goals in the realization of the practical level of learning because of covid-19 of sudden, so that the weaknesses of government education policy covered up, the implementation of distance learning as an escape from the substance freedom of learning. Researchers used mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) in conducting this research by distributing questionnaires to students, then to deepen the researchers conducted in-depth interviews with educational experts. The results of this study illustrate that the policy of freedom government learning is presented with negative acceptance by the community, but it turns positive because of the pandemic covid-19. The government does not plan specifically to respond to the covid-19 threat, but distance learning is the answer to uncertain natural phenomena, rather the ultimate goal freedom of learning program.
