Abstract

Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is a new type of concrete material in the construction work. The primary material of the SCC are a combination between cement and fly ash. However, the main issue of SCC is the use of cement, where the cement production process is one of the causes of global warming. One alternative is to increase the level of fly ash content in the SCC composition.

This study aims to identify the effect of high volume of fly ash (HVFA) on the flow ability and strength of fresh SCC. The ratio of fly ash content is between 0.50-0.55 of the total weight. Compressive strength and flow ability tests are performed to determine the SCC HVFA material properties.

The results showed that the fly ash ratio of 0.5 gave the best flow ability of fresh concrete. It also increases the porosity of concrete of 0.2% and the compressive strength of 20 MPa. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of HVFA can improve flow ability and porosity of concrete material, and also reduce the pollution during the cement manufacture process.
