Abstract


The aim of this study is to design a pop-up book of sea turtle conservation for strengthening of animal topic knowledge for 1st and 2nd grade elementary school student. Pop-up book is a book with a construction technique for moving paper parts used to create moving images that stimulate attention and promote children’s imagination. The subject of this research was the pop-up book of sea turtle conservation. The object was the validity of the pop-up book. The study was addressed in three phases. Firstly, interview elementary school teachers to identify the level of knowledge on sea turtle conservation and the availability of sea turtle conservation resource in school. Secondly, design the pop-up book: brief structuring, sketching, mechanism, digitization, and prototype. Thirdly, validation was applied to describe pop-up book quality as a didactic resource that improve student’s knowledge and stimulate their motivation to learn about sea turtle conservation. The instruments for this study are interview instrument and questionnaire instrument for measuring the validity level of the pop-up book. Data was analyzed by using mean formula to determine the validity average score of pop-up book. The score was 4.35 which in good criteria. The result shows that the pop-up book can be applied to promote sea turtle conservation knowledge for elementary school students.
