Abstract

Creative thinking skills plays an important role in the 21th century skills. The purpose of this study was to analyze the creative thinking skills of Junior High School students on biological learning. A descriptive survey method was conducted to obtain a quantitative data. The four indicators of creative thinking skills (fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration) were measured by providing open ended questions. The research subjects were 189 junior high school students in 8th grade in Bangkalan district who came from 9 schools. The analyzed data  showed that the creative thinking skills of Junior High School students in Bangkalan District was still low on all indicators of creative thinking skills. However, the achievement of the fluency indicator revealed the best score than the other indicators, although the classical achievement had not been matched with the minimum school standard. In addition, the level of creative thinking skills of students was in the category of not creative especially in the indicators of to produce something new and detailly, and also to overcome the problems of various aspects/areas of study triggered.
