Abstract

Misconception is the understanding of a concept that is inconsistent with what is agreed upon by experts so that to correct a misconception of the wrong concept requires appropriate media and strategy. Student activity sheet (LKS) is one of the media that can be used on learning. With the LKS designed using simple tools and materials can help students to understand the concept. Predict-Observe-Explain strategy (POE) is one way to overcome misconception. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of student activity sheet based on Mini Lab using Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) strategy to improve the students' concept concept of light nature.
This research is a pre-experiment research using a group of pre-test and post-test design. In this study, the first measurement of pretest was then treated with a student activity sheet based on the Mini Lab using the Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) strategy and within a given time given posttest. The subject of this research is the fourth grade students in Jember in the even semester of 2017/2018. The result of data analysis using N-gain equation shows improvement of students' concept understanding with medium category and student activity sheet based on mini lab got positive response from students. This suggests that learning using student activity sheet based on Mini Lab using the Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) strategy is effective for improving students' conceptual understanding of primary school.
