Abstract


Natural science subject especially  chemistry  is one of subjects requiring high analytical competence because chemistry is a product (knowledge of chemistry in the form of facts, theories, principles, laws and processes (scientific work).  Competence to live with a positive attitude and have the ability to think critically, creatively, innovatively and able to collaborate and communicate is a demand for Life Skills 21st Century to make sure learners are able to solve problems in their life well. In the neighborhood and school, garbage is one of the problems that must be handled specifically. Plastic waste has been increasing and need the ability of learners to solve this problems in life, then held research that aims to determine the mastery of the concept and creative thinking skills of learners through a model of Problem Based Learning with Context of Waste Handling Plastics.The subjects of this study were 36 students of class X IPA at SMAN 1 Tambun Utara Bekasi Regency. Instruments used in this study include written tests (for mastery of concepts and Creative thinking skills), Observation  Sheet, Student Work Sheet, Questionnaire and Interview Guidelines. The results of this study were obtained from Data Pretest and Posttest which then processed and analyzed using N-Gain formula which then processed and analyzed descriptively.The result of the research shows that overall ability of mastery of concept and creative thinking skill can be developed through problem based learning. Based on these results, PBL can be recommended and applied to the learning process of chemistry that has the suitability of the characteristics of learning materials with PBL stages.  Keywords: PBL, mastery of concept, creative thinking skill, plastic waste
