Abstract
This research aims to describe the ability of students’ mathematical representation to solve linear program’s problem reviewed from gender differences. This research focuses on table representation, symbols representation, verbal representation, and graph representation. The subjects of this research are one male and one female student of the fourth Semester of Mathematics Education in Majapahit Islamic University. The subjects are selected based on the highest mathematics ability which is assesed from their previous assignments and tests. In addition, the communication ability of the subjects is also considered in order to facilitate the researcher in conducting interviews. This research uses a time triangulation which compares the first test and the second test, and it’s accompanied by interviews.
Â
Based on the result of the tests and interviews, it can be concluded that (a) the subjects make a problem situation in symbols to write what is known, questioned and problem solving; (b) the subjects write a graph to show the solution set from all of the three inequalities but a male subject make mistake in drawing a line of the third inequality; (c) only a female subject write tables to drawing a graph, while a male subject do not; (d) the subjects make a problem situation in verbal to write what is known, questioned and problem solving. Therefore, it can be concluded the difference of mathematical representation from a male and a female subject are a table and graph representation
