Profile of Scientific Thinking Ability in Eleventh Grade of Science Students In Sleman Tourism Area, Special Region of Yogyakarta

Abstract


The scientific thinking ability is an important competency for students, because its ability is needed to face the development of science in the 21st century. This research aims to determine the students scientific thinking ability in eleventh grade of science in Sleman tourism area, Special Region of Yogyakarta. This research is descriptive quantitative. The sample of this research is taken by cluster random sampling at senior high school in the tourism area of Sleman as many as 60 students. Student's scientific thinking ability is measured using 25 multiple-choice questions that contain aspects of scientific ability, are: 1) inquiry, 2) analysis, 3) inference and 4) arguments. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistic method. The results of this research indicate students scientific thinking ability is still low on every aspect. Percentage of inquiry aspect 49% as low category, analysis aspect 43% as low category, inference aspect 42% as low category and argument aspect 40% as low category. The results of this research provide information about students scientific thinking ability in the eleventh grade high school of science in Sleman tourism area, Special Region of Yogyakarta is still low, so it is expected that teachers can design a learning process that can empowering students scientific thinking ability.
