Abstract


This research aimed at developing local Ngadanese culture-based  learning materials, to investigate the appropriate learning model of mathematics that can be used for teaching elementary students and analyzing the quality of the newly developed culture-based materials for the third grade students of SDI Turekisa. This research employed Research and Development model adapted from Dick and Carey (1996).  The instruments used in this study were observation, field notes, questionnaire and test. This research will produce a textbook designed by putting pictures related to Ngada’s culture and contains some cultural aspects in it. Based on the result of expert judgement and field test,  the materials can be categorized  as having excellent quality. The materials implemented in the classroom  were effective and  students felt motivated to learn mathematics  because the materials introduced was covered with some interesting pictures like traditional house and their stuffs. The implementation of the learning materials was also got positive respon from the students. It is proven by the student’s got very good of clasical scores. Based on the result, the development of culture-based materials are suitable to use and  can be used as the supplementary materials  in teaching mathematics and  hopefully, through this way, the local culture’s values can be maintainable.
