The Effect of Contextual Learning Model and Critical Thinking Skills Toward Student’s Scientific Literacy on Senior High School Class X

Abstract


The aim of this study is to determine the effect of Contextual Learning Model and Critical Thinking Skills toward Students’ Scientific Literacy on Senior High School Class X. This study was conducted at SMAN 4 Kota Tangerang and SMAN 11 Kabupaten Tangerang in Tenth Graders. The Quasi Experiment Method with Two Way Anava design (treatment by level 2 x 2) was implemented in this study. 36 students as the sample was selected by purposive sampling in SMAN 4 Kota Tangerang while 44 students as the sample was selected by purposive sampling in SMAN 11 Kabupaten Tangerang. Students in experimental group were learned through Science, Technology and Society. Meanwhile, in control group, students were learned through Contextual Teaching and Learning. The conclusions of this area are : (1) the student’s scientific literacy given by Science, Technology and Society is higher than Contextual Teaching and Learning; (2) there is influence of interaction between learning models and critical thinking skills toward student’s scientific literacy; (3) student’s scientific literacy given Science, Technology and Society is higher than Contextual Teaching and Learning in group of student’s with high critical thinking skills; and (4) student’s scientific literacy given Science Technology and Society is lower than Contextual Teaching and Learning in group of student’s who have low critical thinking skills.
